The Olinguito (Bassaricyon neblina) is a recently discovered carnivorous mammal from northern South America. Before its official reveal on August 15th, 2013, the olinguito was previously believed to be the olingo or the kinkajou, but the fur color and anatomy of the skull proved it was a different species. The olinguito marks the first time a mammal has been discovered in the western hemisphere since 1978. The olinguito is nocturnal, lives in foggy forests, and is part of the raccoon family (Procyonidae).
